Blue Chip Maarhabi upgrades to Advance
Blue Chip Maarhabi (Charlie) upgrades to Advanced after
successfully completing 80km at Boconnoc Estate. Unfortunately the weather was a bit on the soggy side but this did not deter
Charlie's enthusiasm and capability. Thanks must go to David Sumner and Jo & Pete Claridge for crewing at
my last event for 2009.
South West Team Success at Barbury Castle
Over a douzen SW horses & riders travelled to
Malborough for the Inter-regional Championships at Morris Team Trophey against the Wessex Branch. The sun was out and the
terrain challenging. The trip was worthwhile when the team was awarded 2nd place in the Inter-regionals and picked up
1st place in the Morris Team Challenge. Maarhabi successfully completed 64km but Zar was unfortunately lame at the end of
the 40km route after picking up a flint.

Half brothers Ali Shahmahl & Azaraell (Zar) swept

Celtic Team travels to Ludlow

Rachael Claridge, Rachael Sargent, Leslie Dawe, Kathy Clark, Carrie-Anne Dark travelled to Ludlow
to compete in the Celtic Challenge against Ireland, Scotland and Wales on 18th & 19th July. Pouring rain made going increasingly
difficult and the team suffered casulties with Drummer, Firebird and Leo going lame in the 45/45km, 80/80km and 80km ER classes
despite careful riding by Rachael Sargent, Leslie and Carrie-Anne. A good time was had by all and hopefully we'll
do better next year!
June 2009

Sherry, Helen Perry and Abi Taylor at the FEI South African Challenge. This 120km endurance race took place at Beaufort West
in Western Province, 5 hours East of Cape Town. We all completed the course on borrowed horses at a speed just under
17kmph. Many thanks to all of the owners and the E.R.S.A organising committee for making the trip such a success. A personal
thank you to Blue Chip Feed Balancer for providing Navy Blue poloshirts for the team and to the Civil Service Sports Club.
